Application Engineer
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Kurita Canada has an immediate need for an Application Engineer. As an Application Engineer you represent the company & provide a valuable service to our customers.
We are seeking a motivated chemical or biological graduate (or equivalent experience) to join our Industrial Water Treatment Team. This role blends laboratory work with hands-on operational responsibilities in a complex industrial wastewater and water treatment environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both in a lab setting and directly on the plant floor, supporting critical treatment systems and process optimization.
This individual is responsible for his/her participation in the field training program, including acquiring all assigned technical and mechanical knowledge. An Application Engineer is responsible for developing customer and prospect rapport and goodwill, for learning the customers’ and prospects’ operations and for becoming a producing member of the company sales and service team.

Compensation: $100,000 (CAN)
Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor biological wastewater treatment systems, including anaerobic, anoxic, and aerobic processes
- Support and optimize performance of mechanical systems such as screw presses, lamella clarifiers, and dissolved air flotation (DAF) units
- Conduct routine sampling for regulatory, laboratory testing, and analysis to ensure compliance and process efficiency
- Assist with pretreatment and operation of advanced water systems including ultrafiltration (UF), softening, reverse osmosis (RO), steam systems, and cooling water systems
- Interface with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to monitor and adjust plant operations
- Troubleshoot process upsets and implement corrective actions in collaboration with operations and engineering teams
- Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports related to plant and lab activities
- Ensure adherence to environmental, safety, and regulatory standards
Qualifications
- Degree/diploma in Chemical Engineering, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
- Working knowledge of biological wastewater treatment processes (anaerobic, anoxic, aerobic)
- Mechanical aptitude with experience or familiarity in plant equipment and operations
- Experience with water treatment technologies such as UF, RO, and softening systems is preferred
- Familiarity with DCS or automated plant control systems is an asset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team
Preferred Certifications
4th or 3rd Class Steam Engineering certification (considered a strong asset)
Work Environment
Combination of laboratory and industrial plant floor setting
Exposure to wastewater treatment systems, chemicals, and mechanical equipment
Requires adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
